You don’t need a perfect space or a room full of equipment to begin a home practice. A few thoughtfully chosen yoga props can make your practice more comfortable, supportive, and easy to return to.
Here are the props we reach for most often (collect them in this order, and buy them anywhere as links are just suggestions) :
Two cork yoga blocks (4 × 6 × 9 inches)
Blocks bring the floor closer, offer stability, and help poses adapt to your body, not the other way around. Cork blocks are especially supportive because they feel sturdy and grounded.
A yoga blanket
Perhaps the most versatile prop of all. Fold it beneath your knees, hips, or head; roll it for support; or pull it over you during rest.
A yoga bolster
A bolster supports the body in restorative poses, gentle backbends, and longer-held shapes. It’s an invitation to soften without asking your body to work so hard.
A meditation cushion
Sitting comfortably makes meditation much more approachable. A cushion lifts the hips and gives the spine room to settle naturally. A firm pillow or folded blanket works beautifully, too.
You don’t need to purchase everything at once. Begin with what you have—books can become blocks, pillows can become bolsters, and any favorite blanket will do.
Your practice isn’t made meaningful by the props you own. These are simply tools that help you feel supported as you return to your body, your breath, and yourself.
